Dramatic Lemur (:20) (link)
Make sure your sound is turned up loud.

German Weather Woman: (:60)  (link)
After a very minor news blooper, a weather woman breaks down into hysterical laughter.  Somehow better that it is in German.

Cat Attacks Baby  (:12 seconds) link
Pretty self explanatory.  Worth playing a few times.

Butter Floor (2:00) (link)
This was my favorite.  Yes, there’s physical humor but there is also genuine emotion here.  From the all caps of the intro text to the time it took to execute, you can feel the frustration here.  Also, unlikely it would have been done if the Internet or YouTube didn’t exist -  a fine example of the medium is the message and a lovely way to end a YouTube film festival.

----------------------INTERMISSION--------------------------------

What Guys Think - Sex, Bob (0:30) (link)
Funny way to start after the intermission.

First Semester Spanish Love Song (1:41) (link)
Mmm.  Cinnamon Twist.

Grand Central Station (3 min) (link)
Thrilling performance art, also a favorite.

South Caroline Beauty Queen (:43) (link)
Concerning video.

Fighting Giraffes (:23) (link)
We watched just the first 23 seconds, after that you get the idea.  There was some talk about whether or not its real but it is.

Dramatic Chipmunk

Moon Walking Bear (:60) (link)
A classic perhaps.

Swedish Hostess (:49) (link)
Some concern about whether or not the translation is real but worth 49 seconds of your time just in case it is.

Cheating Offsets (1:30) (link)
This is way too long so start at minute one and stop at 2:30.

Beer Pong (2:43) (link)
Maybe not worth the entire 2:43 but it certainly took them longer to do film it than that.  It does, in its own way, inspire hope for America's future.

Reggae Chips Ahoy Commercial (0:29) (link)
One of the strangest things we’ve ever seen.

Why It's Important To Learn English (0:30) (link)

Baby Kicked (:26) (link)
Disturbing.

Donation of 200 Kidneys  (1:30) (link)
A hoot.  Very high production values.

Mt. Everest Climber (:15) (link)
Perhaps the funniest fifteen seconds you’ll ever spend.

Banned Mastercard Ad (1:16) (link)

And finally...

A Day in the Life of a Superdelegate (4:11) (link)
A little shameless plug here at the end - this is a satire that some friends and I made.  We happen to think its funny.

Y o u T u b e      F i l m      F e s t i v a l     2008

Optical Illusion 2 (:09) link
Short and surprising illustration of how the mind sees what it expects to see.
Star Wars Kid (1:45) link
A classic for the two people left on the planet who haven’t seen it.
Diet Coke and Mentos (2:00) (link)
Kind of fun to do this during intermission.
Latte Art (1:20) (link)
Pretty amazing though no need to watch the whole thing.
Baby Got Book (4:21) (link)
Voted one of the favorites of the festival.
Ronald McDonald's Daughter (:30) (link)
We tried to avoid things appearing on television except video that you would have been very unlikely to see.   This creepy commercial would certainly qualify:

Dramatic Chipmunk (:20) (link)
A nice juxtaposition for the above.
Grape Stomping (1:20) (link)
Something about the camera angle before the inevitable fall that raises this one above the rest:
Japanese Tetris (4:30) (link)
Voted best in show by our group.
Actress Playing Helen Keller Falls Off Stage(:15) (link)
A cheap shot perhaps, but pretty funny. Can skip the first ten seconds.
Filipino Prison Thriller (2 min) (link)
No need to watch past the first two minutes, but pretty cool form of rehabilitation.

Weiner Issues (1:45) (link)
Local television clip that starts off slow but gathers momentum
Food Fight (5:30) (link)
There’s a trick here - don’t dismiss this too early.  It’s brilliant, amazing, and beautiful.

The two problems with viewing video on the internet are the small screen and, well, the abject solitariness.  To get around this, we asked everyone we know for their five favorite links. From a few hundred submissions, we selected what we have grandly called "The Best of YouTube."

How these were chosen: In general, we favored the funny, clever, and unexpected over physical feats.  We also favored content unique to the medium rather than content repurposed from television.  Finally, we left out videos that aren't so funny the second time (Business Time, Sarah Silverman and Matt Damon.)  But don't agree with the choices? Host your own damn YouTube film festival.

Thanks to everyone who submitted videos, especially Ben and Brandie for Japanese Tetris - voted best in show.
